Research Summary

Coordinates and conducts research for the Northeast Arugula Team (NEAT), which aims to improve profitability for arugula and brassica leafy green growers in PA and the northeast US. Specific research areas include field and greenhouse evaluations for bacterial disease resistance in commercial and PI arugula cultivars, observing flea beetle predation and phenotype differences between clutivars, genotyping bacterial pathogens isolated from disease outbreaks in arugula and brassica leafy green plantings, and more. Other ongoing research projects within the Bull Lab include investigating economically feasible integrated management systems for bacterial diseases on cucurbits and chenopods, biocontrol of bacterial blotch on cultivated mushrooms, and other microbiome and phytobacteriology work with leafy greens and mushrooms.
