Mycobiomes/Targeting Isolations of Microbial Dark Matter

February 1, 2019 @ 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

Andrea Porras-Alfaro, Associate Professor of Mycology, Microbial Molecular Ecology, Western Illinois University

W203 Millennium Science Complex
University Park

Dr. Andrea Porras-Alfaro, associate professor of mycology at Western Illinois University, will be visiting on Friday, February 1. Porras-Alfaro's research focuses on the diversity and function of mycobiomes and their symbiotic interactions with plants in both agricultural and natural ecosystems; with particular interest in novel fungi with the potential to ameliorate the effects of climate change. Her work includes the study of root-associated microbial communities in long-term field manipulations in arid systems and grasslands across the U.S., studies of soybean and corn plantations in Illinois and the study of fungal symbiosis with tropical orchids. She will be presenting the seminar: "Mycobiomes/Targeting Isolations of Microbial Dark Matter" at 11 a.m., and will have time to meet with students, postdocs and faculty throughout the day. If you are interested in meeting with her, feel free to reserve your spot using this document or email Terry Torres (tjt33@psu.edu).
