The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences offers limited, short-term “Bridge Funding” to address immediate and unexpected funding gaps impacting ongoing research projects.
Eligibility Criteria
- This funding is for ongoing projects for which funding is expected but has been delayed due to unforeseen factors. It supports milestone completion towards the next funded phase.
- Funding is time-limited (up to two months, summer only) to support the temporary continuation of existing activities
- All Penn State life sciences faculty with active research are eligible to apply
- Priority will be given to projects that involve collaborative teams
- Total number of awards is limited and based on available resources
Proposals must describe why the proposed research is urgent and why bridge funding would be the most appropriate mechanism for supporting the proposed work.
The bridge funding is for supporting the following two categories only:
Bridge A Funding is used for requests that have a severe urgency regarding the availability of or access to Huck core facilities or keeping study animals alive. This funding is not meant to support longer-term efforts. Funding can be used for:
- Fees for essential sample analyses (only in Huck core facilities) to continue or finish work until the next round of funding becomes available
- Short-term animal support
Bridge B Funding is used for requests to temporarily support graduate students (up to two months- Summer term only). Funding can be used for:
- Graduate student summer stipends (due to exhausted or insufficient funding)
- Graduate students from the Huck Intercollege Degree Programs will be prioritized
Once selected, faculty will be expected to provide evidence of meeting the eligibility criteria before receiving the support.
