Dr. Roossinck is a Professor at the Noble Foundation with a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Colorado._ She is being hosted by Dr. Fred Gildow, Plant Pathology, Penn State University. Abstract Walking through a natural wildland forest reveals an amazingly healthy array of plants. _In spite of their appearance, these plants are full of viruses, bacteria and fungi. _In a nearby agricultural field there are many sickly looking plants, even though their load of microbial parasites is much lower. _My lab and I are interested in understanding what is happening to keep the wild plants healthy, why the agricultural plants are so much more susceptible to disease, and if the healthy green of wild plants can somehow be transferred to agriculture.
