The objective of most invasion management programs is to "control" an invasive species._ However, optimal control of local abundance and population growth may require different management strategies than optimal control of spatial spread._ We synthesize field data on the same invasive plant species in different parts of its native and invaded range, and use recently developed theory to understand how ecological and environmental context may affect the most appropriate management strategy for a biological invasion. _
