Phenotypic plasticity is often claimed as playing a supporting role in contributing to the success of invasive species. While the plasticity of invasives is an old idea (proposed by Baker in 1965), evidence and details have lagged well behind the growth in the number of claims. Richards and colleagues made this point in a 2006 review of the subject, but it is still questionable as to whether the majority of claims of plasticity contributing to invasiveness are actually warranted. In this presentation I will discuss some relevant types of studies that could further our understanding of the relationships between phenotypic plasticity and invasiveness._
